Pinterest is for Artists

by

Pinterest is the ultimate social networking service when it comes to all things visual, and for people who have an eye for art, it’s a paradise of new ways to discover information.  The concept is simple:  users sign up for an account and can instantly start interacting with images.  The place is full of images, in fact.  You won’t find any 72 character text updates, or mile long paragraphs for journalistic self expression:  here, it’s all about the pictures.  You can create and name your own Pinboards, places to save the images you most enjoyed and re-pinned from other people’s Pinboards.

That Art is Gross!

by

Let’s be honest with one another for a second here. Ready? We are all critics. We are food critics, art critics, movie critics, and the list goes on and on. If we like something, we give it rave reviews and encourage others to partake in it as well. On the other hand if there is something we do not like, we make it a point to let everyone know our opinion so they will know what to expect. There is not anything wrong with that, it is just how we are. Let’s go back to the art critic thing though, when you see art that you like, you probably feel a certain way when you see it. The same thing can be said for when you see a bad piece of art.

The Art of Photography

by

I remember when I was a little kid and I was given a Polaroid camera for Christmas. You would have thought I was given an entire playground to myself or a train station of my own. You know something like that which little kids go crazy for. Well, that is how I acted. I was taking pictures nonstop for days and days and days. The first time I ran out of the “film” for my camera and had to wait for a couple of hours to take pictures I felt down in the dumps. My spirits were obviously lifted when dad came home with more. Again I got to snapping photos. That Christmas morning changed my life. I was given a gift of art, and it was the art of photography.

The Art Community

by

When artists come together it seems like nothing bad can happen. All artists want to do is create and then share those creations with the outside world to appreciate. Recently I moved to a new area. It is a small southern town with great charm, and a downtown scene that really tries to cater to local artists of all types. When I first set foot in the building where the town’s Artist League sets up shop, it took me back to other cities where I have lived and I got to reminiscing. The art community, no matter where you are—big city, little town, in the middle of nowhere—is a tightly-knit community. People who love art come together and share to make roots in an area and inspire those around them. If you are not involved in an artists’ league or some type of art community in your area, I recommend you find out how to become a part of one of these wonderful little communities. You will find that you make new friends with similar interests and you might even get more promotion of your art too.

Do Art For a Living

by

There was never a question for me as to what I wanted to do with my life for my career. The second I was handed a crayon and some paper I was sold to the idea of being an artist. Not many people can say that they had their profession decided at the age of 3, but I certainly can. The idea of creating and building and drawing for the rest of my life just seemed to fit perfectly along with my other plans. I was determined to be an artist, and I became one. Now you might think that to be an artist, you have to have a job doing graphics or drawing cartoons for papers or even teaching, but that is not what I do at all. I am an artist in the sense that all I do in my life is art. I set my own schedule, and I create on my own time. Now if you are looking to pursue a career in art and looking for a nine to five gig, it is certainly possible. There are many different paths you can take to become a working artist. Here are a few options for you to think about if you are considering going down the art path.

Make Money From Your Art

by

When you were a child and people asked you what you wanted to be when you grew up, you might not have known that you wanted to be an artist until you were much older. Once you came to the decision of becoming an artist, you might have worried what career path you would then take. Being an artist in the sense of doing your own thing and using your own ideas to create works is not a job that you can simply search help wanted ads for. Many artists today want to share their art and make some money by doing that. There are a lot of different outlets available for you if this sounds like what you are trying to achieve. If you think people will buy your art, then you should get to selling it, but how? Here are some ways that you can put your art out there for people to see and buy.
